Triggers

The story has a character who undergoes an abortion or a threat of it. It may be consensual, non-consensual, or attempted. The actual act may or may not be described. There may be things done to the character to trigger an abortion.

The character experiences abuse. It can be physical, verbal, mental, emotional, or sexual.

The story features some sort of bigotry. It could be anti-LGBTQIA+, ableism, racism, ageism, misogyny, misandry, sexism, fatphobia, discrimination based on religion, nationality, or other personal factors.

A death occurs in the story. It might not be the main character, but it could be someone important. The death may also be committed by the main characters. Deaths related to war or other situations may be included in this category.

The story features at least one graphic sexual encounter. This means it is not a closed-door scene or a fade to black. The details are there.

The story contains incest, which is sex between blood relatives.

The story contains one or more types of kinks. A kink can be a lot of different things, from being tied up to enjoying being beaten by a partner. Kinks can be sexual or non-sexual.

The story features one character being the master over another, the slave. This may or may not be consensual.

Mental illness is depicted in the story. These illnesses can range from bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, and other disorders.

There aren't any triggers in the story. Most poetry and non-fiction will fall into this category. This does not mean the content is happy.

There are triggers in the story that are further individualized. There may be depictions of phobias or acts that someone should be aware of. When possible, this trigger is given with details.

This category covers any type of sexual act that the character has not consented to. This includes dubious consent where it isn't clear. It also covers blackmail sex, drunk sex, date rape, and many others.

When used, this trigger indicates that the character engages in some form of self-harming behavior. This can be due to a mental illness, stress, or trauma. This includes cutting, skin picking, eating disorders, and choosing to treat oneself poorly as a result of these issues.

A character in the story is a victim of sex trafficking.

Snuff is a kink where people get off on watching a person be killed or die. They might even participate in it.

Characters utilize substances during the story, like drugs, alcohol, etc., that alter their consciousness.

A character in the story attempts suicide. However, they are not able to complete the act.

A character in the story completes a suicide.
